The music program of our school aims to achieve the following;

  • to bring joy and a sense of fulfilment and well-being to children

  • to transmit our musical heritage

  • to assist children to sing in tune, to move rhythmically, to play instruments individually and in groups, and to create their own music.

All students from prep to year 7 participate in music lessons with a specialist teacher once a week. A choir is also available for students in years 3 to 7.

Instrumental music

Instrumental music is an elective program for students enrolled in years 5, 6 and 7. Instructors teach lessons in percussion, wind and brass instruments. The main objective of this program is to afford children the opportunity to participate in a group music performance situation. Children who participate in the instrumental program have a half-hour lesson in school time and a group rehearsal in their own time (e.g. before school or at lunch time).

Tuition is free and instruments are available for hire to year 5 students. If children continue in the instrumental music program they are expected to buy their own instruments in years 6 and 7.
