The music program of our school aims to achieve the following;
to bring joy and a sense of fulfilment and well-being to children
to transmit our musical heritage
to assist children to sing in tune, to move rhythmically, to play instruments individually and in groups, and to create their own music.
All students from prep to year 7 participate in music lessons with a specialist teacher once a week. A choir is also available for students in years 3 to 7.
Instrumental music
Instrumental music is an elective program for students enrolled in years 5, 6 and 7. Instructors teach lessons in percussion, wind and brass instruments. The main objective of this program is to afford children the opportunity to participate in a group music performance situation. Children who participate in the instrumental program have a half-hour lesson in school time and a group rehearsal in their own time (e.g. before school or at lunch time).
Tuition is free and instruments are available for hire to year 5 students. If children continue in the instrumental music program they are expected to buy their own instruments in years 6 and 7.
