Guidance officer

Salisbury State School is supported by a part-time guidance and counselling service for its students, their parents/guardians and staff.
This service enables students to successfully resolve an increasingly broad and challenging range of educational and developmental issues that may concern them in their progress through primary school. 
The Guidance Officer can support with the following:

1. Developmental Education

·         Support case management and referral services to optimise students' access and engagement in education
·         Liaise with teachers and specialists (such as Paediatricians, Speech Pathologists, Occupational Therapist etc.) to identify concerns and recommend support for the educational purposes.
·         Administrating psycho-educational assessments to determine eligibility for verifications (i.e. Intellectual Disabilities, Speech and Language Impairment)
 2. Student and Family Support
  • Help students successfully resolve personal concerns which may be impeding their progress at school/home
  • Enhance students coping skills to build resilience
  • Enhance parenting skills to manage complex concerns at home
  • Refer students to allied health providers
  • Refer families to relevant support agencies in the community
  • Liaise with external agencies (psychologists, psychiatrist, family support agencies etc.).

Appointments

Parents wishing to make an appointment with the Guidance Officer please contact the school office on (07) 3717 4888 and administration will book you into the Guidance Office’s calendar. 
Students can self-refer to see the Guidance Officer (who have parental consent). Student may see the Guidance Officer before school and during break times.
Teachers and administrative staff can refer a student (who has parental consent) during learning time for additional support.
